Scientific Positions
The Garvan Institute is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutions with approximately 400 scientists, students and support staff working in research programs including Cancer, Diabetes & Obesity, Immunology & Inflammation, Osteoporosis, and Neuroscience.
The Institute is pleased to call for applications from Clinician-Researchers for this newly established Diabetes Research Fellowship generously funded by GlaxoSmithKline Australia.
We are now seeking new Group Leaders to complement our neuroscience research interests. Outstanding candidates from all areas of molecular and cellular neurobiology will be considered and cross-disciplinary research areas are encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will join the faculty of the Garvan Institute and will receive generous start-up support to establish their individual research group. These are 100% research focused positions, with no teaching commitments.
The Australian BioResources Facility (ABR), located near Moss Vale, opened in 2008 as a high-tech solution to the problem of housing expanding numbers of genetically modified mice needed in modern medical research. While the faculty is owned and operated by the Garvan Institute, it is also currently used by seven other accredited research institutes within Australia and is looking to expand its service provision. The ABR operates on a full cost recovery basis.
The Australian BioResources Facility (ABR) is seeking an experienced microinjectionist to establish an efficient transgenic lab offering services in microinjection, blastocyst injection, as well as cryopreservation of embryos, sperm and ovaries. These services will compliment the existing highly successful embryo rederivation service. The provision of these high-tech services will augment the range of services currently offered to researchers.
We are seeking a Casual Lab Technician for 20-30 hours per week. The position might be particularly suitable for a third year science student who is carrying a light course load, interested in undertaking honours studies in 2010 and/or who may wish to pursue a PhD in the future. Lab technicians interested in a casual position would also be welcome. This position would be unsuitable for medical students.
Non Scientific Positions
The Australian BioResources Facility, owned and operated by the Garvan, breeds high quality laboratory mice for Garvan’s medical research programmes. This new facility, based near Moss Vale, uses advanced technology to provide an optimal environment for the production of high quality animals for medical research.
The principle responsibilities of this position involve the breeding, maintenance and care of inbred and genetically manipulated mouse colonies within a clean room environment.
