Emily Colvin wins Premier’s Award for Outstanding Cancer Research Scholar

26 May 2009 Garvan PhD student Emily Colvin has received the prestigious $10,000 Premier's Award for Outstanding Cancer Research Scholar from the Cancer Institute NSW for her research into pancreatic cancer. The news was announced at a gala ceremony late last week.

Garvan immunology students win main prizes at ASI conference

19 Dec 2008 For the second year in a row, a PhD student from Garvan has won the very prestigious New Investigator Award at the annual Australasian Society for Immunology (ASI) conference, held last week in Canberra. The 2008 winner is Alexis Vogelzang.

Casual Research Assistant with Opportunity for Growth in the Position, Neurodegeneration Research Group

We are seeking a Casual Research Assistant for approximately 30 hours per week.  The position will be tailored for a third year science student with a background in neuroscience who is carrying a light course load and may ultimately be interested in undertaking honours studies in 2011. Alternatively, the position may also suit a person with science qualifications majoring in neuroscience or a closely related field, who may wish to eventually progress in the medical research field.

 
Research Assistant - Immunology

Highly motivated junior researcher required to work on the role of the innnate immune system and new candidate molecules in tumour development within the Immunolgoy Research Program.  Possibility of career advancement in an environment that values team spirit and cooperation.

Candidates should ideally be a recent BSc (Hons) graduate who would like to go to a PhD.

Postdoctoral Researcher

Garvan is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the Neurodegeneration Research Group to study aspects of the relationship between inflammation, neurodegeneration and neural stem cells in neurological disease.

Applicants must have a PhD, 1 - 5 years postdoctoral experience with demonstrated competence in molelcular biology, and capacity to undertake RNA extraction, in situ hybridisation and immunohistochemtry.

Bioinformatics Research Officer

A Bioinformatics Research Officer is required to assist in the analysis of large-scale epigenomic data as well as the development of tools to aid data analysis.  The position would suit a PhD graduate with postdoctoral experience from a quantitative discipline (statistics, bioinformatics, mathematics) with good knowledge and/or a degree or experience in molecular biology and epigenetics.

Research Assistant, Neuroscience Program, Eating Disorders Laboratory

 

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position joining an established collaborative team which studies the molecular mechanisms controlling appetite, energy expenditure and adiposity using several different conditional knockout models.

 

The successful applicant will have one or two years of experience with a strong background in mouse related work and demonstrated competence in biochemistry type analysis. Knowledge in basic molecular biology techniques, in situ hybridisation immunohistochemistry and other related localisation techniques are an advantage.

Tumour Bank Officer, Pancreatic Research Program

We are seeking to appoint a Tumour Bank Officer to support an international project designed to define the underlying events initiating and driving cancer through a coordinated analysis of the cancer genome in large cohorts of patients.

This position is part-time, to be worked two set days a week with some flexibility required.  Based between the Garvan Institute in Darlinghurst and Sydney South West Area Hospitals, it is essential that candidates have their own car and full and current driving licence.

Program Coordinator - PRIMe project

PRIMe (Pharmacogenomic Research for Individualised Medicine) is a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary program in pharmacogenomics across New South Wals that seeks to deliver improved outcomes for cancer patients from discovery through to clinical implementation.

We are seeking a person to coordinate the actions of the PRIMe Steering Committee with the primary objective of increasing the efficiency and synergy in pharmacogenomics in New South Wales.

Candidates should have:

  • a background in translational research and/or clinical trials;
  • minimum of 3 years work experience in project management of multi-institutional, state-wide or national initiatives;
  • postgraduate research qualifications (highly desirable).
