Young Garvan invites you to discover "Hidden Treasure" at Ruby Rabbit on Nov 18
The Young Garvan Committee are hosting their annual fundraiser next Friday, November 18, at one of Sydney's top nightspots, Ruby Rabbit. The event will commence at 7pm.
The Young Garvan Committee aim to raise awareness of topical health issues such as cancer, addiction, obesity and genetic research in a fun, informative and entertaining environment.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the funky Sneaky Sound System, and with the evening will be hosted by the beautiful Zoe Naylor from "McLeod's Daughters".
The committee raise at least $50,000 a year to fund a Fellowship for a Young Scientist at the Garvan Institute.
The 2005 Young Garvan Patrons Fellow recipient was Ms Alison Gosby, who is working in the area of diabetes and obesity research. Ms Gosby's project is looking at traditional Chinese medicine's and their role in regulating blood sugar levels.
"Garvan Institute is one of Australia's foremost medical research institutes with research programs covering some of the most common and debilitating diseases affecting our community," Ms Gosby said.
"Garvan researchers have made significant breakthroughs in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of breast and ovarian cancer, diabetes, bipolar disorder, Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis and asthma," Ms Gosby said.
Tickets are $80 (or $60 for Young Garvan Patrons) and include beverages generously sponsored by Cellarmasters - The Wine Cellar and Carlton & United Beverages, and food by bon food.
