Garvan student wins prestigious University Medal
01 Feb 2006
Yvonne Ng, a 2005 Honours student in the Diabetes and Obesity
Research Program, has won the UNSW University Medal for Molecular
Biology. Her research was based on understanding why cells exposed to
excess insulin become insulin resistant and consequently are unable to
import glucose - a cell's primary fuel source. During the course of her
year-long study she found a new enzyme target for insulin
resistance.
Yvonne will rejoin the Garvan this year as a PhD scholar with Professor David James.
